Wisconsin Looks to Hand Maryland First Loss in Big Ten Showdown COLLEGE PARK, Md. (Interstat) — The top-ranked Maryland Terrapins put their perfect record on the line Monday when they host the Wisconsin Badgers in a Big Ten women’s basketball clash at Xfinity Center. Maryland (13-0, 2-0 Big Ten) enters as one of only three remaining undefeated teams in Division I, fresh off a dominant 98-30 victory over Central Connecticut on Dec. 19. The Terrapins’ high-powered offense averages 85.2 points per game, ranking fourth nationally. They are led by guard Oluchi Okananwa, who is coming off a 22-point, 10-rebound, six-assist performance. In Maryland’s thrilling 100-99 double-overtime win at Minnesota on Dec. 7, Okananwa played 39 minutes and scored 25 points. “We’re focused on our execution and playing Maryland basketball,” said Terrapins coach Brenda Frese. “Wisconsin is a very good, physical team, and we’ll need to match that intensity from the start.” Wisconsin (9-3, 1-1) has won three straight, including an 81-72 conference win over IU Indy on Dec. 21. The Badgers are anchored by forward Laci Steele, who posted 13 points and eight rebounds in that victory. Steele’s consistency on both ends will be crucial against Maryland’s deep frontcourt. “This is why you play in the Big Ten — for opportunities like this on the road,” said Wisconsin coach Marisa Moseley. “We have to be disciplined, value every possession and rebound collectively to have a chance.” The matchup pits Maryland’s elite scoring against a Wisconsin defense allowing just 62.8 points per game. The Badgers have not defeated a team since 2010. Maryland has won the last eight meetings between the programs, with Wisconsin’s last victory coming in 2012. The Terrapins’ schedule does not ease up, with a trip to Illinois looming on Jan. 1. Wisconsin opens a new year at Rutgers on Jan. 1. Monday’s contest is the final game of 2025 for both teams. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST. The game will be televised on Big Ten Network.
