ATHENS, Ga. (Interstat) ā The undefeated and No. 1-ranked Georgia womenās basketball team will look to close its non-conference schedule with a perfect record when it hosts Charleston Southern on Monday afternoon at Stegeman Coliseum. The Bulldogs (13-0) have dominated their early slate, winning by an average margin of 26.2 points. Their most recent victory was an 82-55 rout of Coppin State on Dec. 21, led by guard Trinity Turnerās 20 points and five assists. Turner has been a consistent force, averaging 15 points over her last four games. Georgiaās stifling defense, which allows just 51.2 points per game, will face a Charleston Southern squad mired in a difficult season. The Buccaneers (2-10) have lost five straight, including a 93-74 defeat at North Carolina on Dec. 21. Charleston Southern will rely heavily on guard Tyonna Bailey, who erupted for 31 points and nine rebounds in that loss to the Tar Heels. Bailey averages 15.8 points per game and is the focal point of an offense averaging only 58.8 points. The matchup presents a stark contrast in trajectories. Georgia, a national powerhouse, is tuning up for a rigorous Southeastern Conference schedule that begins Jan. 1 at Mississippi. Charleston Southern, seeking a spark before its Big South Conference opener on Jan. 3, has not defeated a Division I opponent since Nov. 22. History heavily favors the Bulldogs, who have won all three previous meetings by an average of 45 points. The Buccaneers are 0-6 on the road this season. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST. Georgia will be without forward DeāMauri Flournoy (knee) for the remainder of the season. Charleston Southern reports no major injuries.
