Preview: Mavericks, Texans Meet in Non-Conference Finale STEPHENVILLE, Texas (Interstat) — Two teams looking to build momentum before league play begins will meet Monday when the Texas-Arlington women’s basketball team visits Tarleton State at Wisdom Gym. The Mavericks (6-6) and Texans (6-5) each enter the non-conference finale coming off a loss. Texas-Arlington was routed 110-45 at LSU on Dec. 21, while Tarleton State fell 90-85 in overtime to Montana on Dec. 20. UTA will lean on forward Kira Reynolds, who is coming off a strong stretch prior to the LSU game. She scored 22 points with four blocks in a win at Arkansas-Little Rock on Dec. 2 and added 12 points against Texas Southern on Dec. 17. Containing her inside will be a key for the Texans’ defense. Tarleton State counters with guard Gia Adams, who has been a consistent force. Adams logged 45 minutes in the overtime loss to Montana, finishing with 22 points, five rebounds and eight assists. She followed that with 23 points and eight assists in a win at Buffalo on Dec. 19, demonstrating her ability to score and facilitate. Both teams have shown resilience. The Mavericks have notable wins over Texas A&M and VCU this season. The Texans have weathered a schedule featuring four overtime games already, going 2-2 in those contests. This matchup serves as a final tune-up before both teams open Western Athletic Conference play on Jan. 1. UTA begins a two-game road swing at California Baptist, while Tarleton State travels to Utah Valley. Monday’s game tips off at 6 p.m. CST at Wisdom Gym. The teams are scheduled to meet again in WAC play on Jan. 21 in Stephenville.
