OAKLAND, Calif. (Interstat) — The Robert Morris Colonials, riding a five-game winning streak and boasting one of the nation’s top records, will host the struggling Oakland Golden Grizzlies in a Horizon League women’s basketball matchup on Monday, Dec. 29, 2025, at the Charles L. Sewall Center. The game pits teams at opposite ends of the early-season spectrum. Robert Morris enters at 9-2 overall, including a perfect 5-0 mark at home in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. Oakland, meanwhile, seeks to halt a four-game skid and improve upon its 3-8 record. The Colonials have been dominant during their streak, winning by an average margin of 24.2 points. A key catalyst is sophomore guard Layke Fields, who is coming off a 16-point, 3-assist, 3-block performance in a 79-29 rout of Point Park on Dec. 19. Fields also scored 24 points in a narrow win at Mercyhurst on Dec. 3, showcasing her offensive versatility. Oakland will counter with senior forward Angie Smith, who has been a bright spot during the team’s difficult stretch. Smith is averaging 9.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game and is coming off a season-high 13 points and 8 rebounds in 36 minutes during a 97-54 loss at Michigan on Dec. 21. The Golden Grizzlies’ offense has sputtered, failing to reach 60 points in any of their last four contests. They will face a stout Robert Morris defense that has held opponents to 52.8 points per game during its winning streak. Historically, this is the first scheduled meeting between the programs since Robert Morris joined the Horizon League. Monday’s contest opens the conference slate for both teams. Following this game, Robert Morris begins a three-game road trip at Milwaukee on Jan. 1. Oakland returns home to host Fort Wayne on Jan. 2. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST.
