LINCOLN, Neb. (Interstat) — The unbeaten and 12th-ranked Nebraska women’s basketball team faces its toughest test of the season Monday when it hosts Southern California at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The Cornhuskers (12-0) are one of 10 remaining undefeated teams in NCAA Division I but will confront a USC program with top-10 talent and a 9-3 record. The Women of Troy are coming off a 61-57 road win at California on Dec. 21. This nonconference matchup, organized by the Big Ten, pits Nebraska’s high-powered offense against a USC squad built on defensive prowess. The Cornhuskers average 85.8 points per game and are coming off an 87-56 rout of California Baptist. USC allows just 54.8 points per game and held its last five opponents to an average of 53.6 points. A key individual battle will feature two of the nation’s top freshmen. Nebraska’s Amiah Hargrove has provided efficient scoring, including a 26-point outburst at Penn State on Dec. 6. For USC, Jazzy Davidson has been a consistent force, averaging 17.4 points per game. She scored 24 points in the win at California and 22 in a victory over Washington. Nebraska’s balance is a strength, with four players averaging double figures, led by Britt Prince at 14.3 points per game. Callin Hake adds 12.3 points and 5.3 assists per contest. USC counters with Davidson and fellow standout Kennedy Smith, who scored 11 against Cal. The Cornhuskers have dominated at home, winning by an average margin of 38.2 points. USC, however, is battle-tested, with games against then-South Carolina and then-Connecticut this season. Monday’s contest is the final nonconference tune-up for both teams before league play intensifies in January. Nebraska opens Big Ten play at Iowa on Jan. 1. USC begins Pac-12 play at UCLA on Jan. 3. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. EST Monday.
