Mount Saint Mary’s Looks to Extend Win Streak at Merrimack NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (Interstat) — The Mount Saint Mary’s Mountaineers, riding a four-game winning streak, visit the Merrimack Warriors in a non-conference women’s basketball matchup Monday at Volpe Athletic Center. The Mountaineers (6-5) have found their rhythm in December, with their streak beginning after a 92-44 loss at then-Maryland on Dec. 3. They are coming off a 65-55 win over Iona on Sunday, powered by a career-high 30 points from guard Gabrielle Kennerly. The junior is averaging 20.0 points over the last five games, including 23 points in a win over Marist and 17 in victories over Mercyhurst and Lehigh. “We’ve really locked in defensively and shared the ball better during this stretch,” said Mount Saint Mary’s coach. “Gabi (Kennerly) has been exceptional, but it’s been a collective effort.” Merrimack (3-7) seeks to halt a three-game skid, most recently an 84-65 loss at Fairfield. The Warriors have been led by forward Oralye Kiefer, who nearly posted a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds against the Stags. Kiefer is averaging 14.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks over her last four contests. Her defensive presence will be key against a surging Mountaineers offense. The Warriors’ last win was a 59-57 road victory at Dartmouth on Dec. 2. They are 2-1 at home this season. For Mount Saint Mary’s, balance behind Kennerly has been crucial. Forward Jaedyn Jamison recorded 12 rebounds and four blocks against Iona, while Wesleigh Ferguson added 10 rebounds. This game is the first of a home-and-home series between the teams, who will meet again in Emmitsburg, Maryland, on Jan. 24. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. Mount Saint Mary’s opens Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at Siena on Jan. 1. Merrimack begins its MAAC schedule at Rider on the same day.
