MILWAUKEE (Interstat) â A surging Saint Johnâs squad looks to rebound from its most lopsided defeat of the season when it visits Marquette in a Big East womenâs basketball matchup Monday at the Bradley Center. The Red Storm (11-3) saw a five-game win streak snapped emphatically in a 85-48 road loss to Villanova on Dec. 22. Prior to that, Saint Johnâs had won 10 of its previous 11, including a 62-55 conference victory over Providence on Dec. 7. The Golden Eagles (8-4) have won four of their last five, with the lone loss in that stretch coming at then-Connecticut on Dec. 17. Marquette is coming off an 86-43 rout of non-conference foe Truman St. on Dec. 20. The game features two of the conferenceâs top offensive talents. Saint Johnâs will lean on guard Brooke Moore, who averages 14.1 points per game. Moore scored 23 points in a win over New Haven on Dec. 17 and has reached double figures in five of her last six contests. For Marquette, dynamic guard Skylar Forbes poses a multifaceted threat, coming off a 26-point, 5-assist, 3-block performance against Truman St. Forbes has averaged 21.5 points over her last four games, including a 26-point, 8-rebound, 6-assist outing in a win over Butler on Dec. 7. Defensive consistency will be a key for the Red Storm, who held opponents under 50 points in three straight wins before the Villanova loss. Marquetteâs offense has been potent at home, averaging 80.3 points in its last three games at the Bradley Center. This contest opens a critical stretch of conference play for both teams. Saint Johnâs begins a run of nine consecutive Big East games after Monday, while Marquette faces Xavier on Jan. 1 in its next outing. The teams will meet again in Queens on Jan. 21. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CST Monday.
