SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — A surging Incarnate Word looks to continue its momentum against a McNeese State team seeking to rebound in a Southland Conference women’s basketball matchup Monday. The Cardinals (4-5) host the Cowgirls (7-4) at the McDermott Convocation Center, riding a three-game winning streak. Incarnate Word’s most recent victory was a 79-68 road win at New Orleans on Dec. 18, powered by a career-high 27 points from guard Brynn Lusby. The sophomore has been a key offensive catalyst, averaging 12.0 points per game during the streak. McNeese State aims to bounce back from a 65-58 home loss to Northwestern State on Dec. 15, which snapped a two-game win streak. The Cowgirls have been led by guard Jalencia Pierre, who posted 14 points and seven assists in that defeat. Pierre averages 8.0 points and 2.5 assists per game. The Cowgirls hold the better overall record, but have faced recent struggles, splitting their last four contests. Their defense has been a strength, holding opponents to 58.5 points per game. Incarnate Word, after a difficult start to the season that included lopsided losses to Texas and TCU, has found its footing in December, averaging 66.0 points during its current streak. This game opens a critical stretch of conference play for both teams.
