Preview: Delaware Blue Hens at Harvard Crimson CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum to carry into the new year will meet Monday when the Delaware Blue Hens visit the Harvard Crimson in a nonconference women’s basketball game at Lavietes Pavilion. Both sides enter the contest with identical 6-6 records, though their paths have diverged recently. Delaware has dropped three of its last four, including a 73-66 loss at Saint Joseph’s on Dec. 21. Harvard saw a three-game winning streak snapped with a narrow 59-57 home loss to Maine on the same date. The matchup features a compelling duel in the frontcourt. Delaware’s Lay Fantroy, a key player for the Blue Hens, is coming off a strong performance of 13 points and seven rebounds in 28 minutes against Saint Joseph’s. Over her last five games, the forward has averaged 9.2 points and 7.6 rebounds, including an 11-point, 12-rebound double-double against Towson on Nov. 30. Harvard will counter with its own standout, Abigail Wright. The Crimson’s leading scorer has been on a tear, pouring in 22 points in two of her last three outings. She nearly posted a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds in the loss to Maine. Wright averaged 15.8 points over her last four games, providing consistent offensive firepower. Delaware’s recent results have been a mix of strong offensive showings, like a 91-80 win over Towson, and defensive struggles, including a 65-48 loss to La Salle on Dec. 17. Harvard’s season has been defined by its performance on the defensive end; the Crimson held opponents to 51 points or fewer in all three victories during their recent streak, including a 67-33 rout of Stony Brook on Dec. 5. This game marks the final nonconference tune-up for both programs before league play intensifies in January. Delaware will embark on a Conference USA schedule, while Harvard turns its focus to the Ivy League. Monday’s contest tips off at 7 p.m. EST. The winner will secure a winning nonconference record and valuable momentum heading into the heart of the season.
