ROSEMONT, Ill. (Interstat) — A surging Villanova Wildcats squad will look to extend its winning streak when it visits the struggling DePaul Blue Demons in a Big East women’s basketball matchup Monday at Allstate Arena. The Wildcats (10-2) enter on a five-game win streak, most recently routing Saint John’s 85-48 on Dec. 22. In that victory, junior guard Jasmine Bascoe led the way with 21 points and nine assists. Bascoe has been the engine for Villanova, averaging over 20 points per game during the streak, including a 26-point performance in a win at Georgetown. Conversely, DePaul (3-11) seeks to halt a four-game skid, having lost those contests by an average margin of 34 points. The Blue Demons fell 70-50 at Creighton on Dec. 20. Freshman guard Kate Novik, a bright spot, scored 11 points in that loss and posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists in a win over Massachusetts-Lowell on Dec. 11. The matchup presents a stark contrast in trajectories. Villanova’s balanced attack, which also features consistent contributors Denae Carter and Brynn McCurry, will test a DePaul defense that has allowed 90 or more points three times this season. The Blue Demons’ offense has also sputtered, failing to reach 55 points in three of their last four games. For DePaul, protecting home court and finding scoring beyond Novik will be critical. Villanova aims to maintain its momentum ahead of a tough January conference slate. The teams will meet again in Philadelphia on Jan. 31. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. EST Monday.
