NEWTON, Mass. (Interstat) — A surging North Carolina women’s basketball team visits a struggling Boston College squad on Monday in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup at Silvio O. Conte Forum. The Tar Heels (11-3) enter on a two-game winning streak, having dominated their last two non-conference opponents by an average of 33.5 points following a 93-74 victory over Charleston Southern on Dec. 21. North Carolina’s offense has been potent, scoring at least 82 points in nine of its 11 wins. Boston College (4-10) seeks to halt a four-game losing skid, most recently a 73-67 home loss to Northeastern on Dec. 19. The Eagles have found consistent scoring difficult, failing to reach 55 points in three of those four defeats during the slide. A key matchup will feature North Carolina guard Elina Aarnisalo against Boston College’s Amirah Anderson. Aarnisalo, coming off a 16-point, four-assist performance against Charleston Southern, has been a steady contributor, scoring in double figures in three of her last five games. Anderson has shown flashes for the Eagles, including a 15-point, six-rebound effort in the loss to Northeastern, but BC will need a sustained performance from her to challenge the Tar Heels. North Carolina’s balance was on full display last time out, with Nyla Brooks (19 points), Aarnisalo (16 points) and Indya Nivar (14 points, six assists) all leading the charge. Boston College will counter with a lineup that includes Teionni McDaniel, who dished out seven assists against Northeastern, and Athena Tomlinson. The game opens a critical stretch of ACC play for both teams. North Carolina will host California and Stanford next week, while Boston College travels to face Duke on Jan. 1. Monday’s contest tips off at 7 p.m. EST.
