(Interstat) — The Auburn women’s basketball team looks to close its non-conference schedule on a high note when it hosts the Jackson State Lady Tigers on Monday afternoon at Auburn Arena. The Tigers (10-3) enter the contest riding a two-game winning streak following a 62-50 victory over Alcorn State on Dec. 18. Auburn has relied on a balanced attack and stout defense, holding opponents to an average of 55.2 points per game this season. A key contributor has been guard Harissoum Coulibaly, who is coming off a 14-point performance against Alcorn State. Over her last five games, Coulibaly is averaging 11.8 points, providing a consistent scoring threat alongside Khady Leye, who leads the team with 15 points in its last outing. Jackson State (2-9) seeks to halt a five-game skid, most recently a 93-62 road loss to Purdue on Dec. 21. The Lady Tigers have faced a daunting early schedule, with all nine losses coming against power-conference opponents or in-state foes like Alabama and Mississippi State. The Lady Tigers’ offense runs through guard Leianya Massenat. She scored a team-high 19 points against Purdue and has been Jackson State’s most reliable scorer during this difficult stretch, averaging 11.8 points over her last four games. Support comes from Jaileyah Cotton, who dished out seven assists in the same game. This matchup presents a stark contrast in trajectories. Auburn has built momentum with a strong defensive identity ahead of its Southeastern Conference opener at Mississippi State on Jan. 1. Jackson State, meanwhile, is battling through a brutal stretch of road games before opening Southwestern Athletic Conference play at home against Alcorn State on Jan. 3.
