SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging Santa Clara women’s basketball team looks to continue its strong non-conference play when it hosts San Diego in a West Coast Conference preview Sunday at Leavey Center. The Broncos (10-3) have won three straight, including an 84-72 road victory at North Texas last Sunday. They are powered by forward Sophie Glancey, who is coming off a dominant 19-point, 13-rebound, four-block performance. Over her last three games, Glancey is averaging 22.3 points and 10.3 rebounds, providing a consistent interior force for a Santa Clara offense averaging 78.2 points per game during its winning streak. San Diego (6-7) arrives after a narrow 56-55 home win over Cal State Fullerton on Dec. 20, snapping a two-game skid. The Toreros have struggled for consistency but are led by guard Hallie Rhodes, who leads the team in scoring and playmaking. Rhodes is averaging 14.7 points, 4.3 assists and 2.0 steals over her last six contests, including a 25-point outing in a loss to Binghamton on Dec. 3. The matchup presents a stark contrast in momentum. Santa Clara’s three losses have come against Stanford, Arizona State and Vermont—all by single digits except for the Cardinal defeat. Their defense has held opponents to 60.8 points per game. San Diego, meanwhile, has faced offensive droughts, scoring 46 points or fewer in three of its seven losses. This game serves as a final tune-up before both teams dive into full WCC play next week. Santa Clara will aim to use its home court and balanced attack—which saw Kylee Fox score 23 and Maia Jones add 15 against North Texas—to overwhelm the Toreros. San Diego will rely on Rhodes to control the tempo and find scoring support from Olivia Owens and Lilly Amor, who combined for 18 points in the last outing. Tip-off is set for Sunday afternoon. Santa Clara hosts Seattle next Tuesday, while San Diego travels to Pacific next Tuesday.
