Preview: Undefeated LSU Hosts Alabama State in Non-Conference Finale BATON ROUGE, La. (Interstat) — The LSU women’s basketball team, riding a dominant start to the season, concludes its non-conference schedule Sunday against visiting Alabama State at the Maravich Assembly Center. The Tigers (12-0) have won every game by at least 26 points, averaging 104.1 points per contest while allowing just 58.8. They are coming off a 110-45 demolition of Texas-Arlington on Dec. 21, a game in which sophomore forward Grace Knox scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Knox has been a consistent force, scoring in double figures in six straight games, including a 25-point, 12-rebound performance in her last outing. She anchors a deep LSU lineup that features four players averaging double-digit scoring. Alabama State (3-7) enters on a two-game skid, including a 105-57 loss at Mississippi State on Dec. 17. The Lady Hornets have faced a rigorous early schedule with road losses to Power Five opponents Auburn, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Baylor and Mississippi State. Guard Shamya Reid leads Alabama State. She logged 34 minutes and scored 12 points in the loss at Mississippi State. The Lady Hornets’ victories have come against non-Division I AUM, Talladega and South Carolina State. This matchup presents a stark contrast. LSU leads the nation in scoring margin (+45.3), while Alabama State has been outscored by an average of 17.6 points per game. The Tigers’ relentless offense will test a Lady Hornets defense that has allowed 90 or more points in three of its seven losses. For LSU, this is a final tune-up before opening Southeastern Conference play at home against Kentucky on Jan. 1. Alabama State begins Southwestern Athletic Conference play on the road at Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Jan. 1. Sunday’s game tips off at 2 p.m. CST.
