Preview: Coppin State Eagles at George Washington Revolutionaries WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The George Washington Revolutionaries, riding a six-game winning streak, will look to continue their momentum when they host the struggling Coppin State Eagles in a non-conference women’s basketball game Sunday at the Charles E. Smith Center. George Washington (8-5) has found its form in December, with its most recent victory a 75-62 decision over Northwestern on Dec. 21. The Revolutionaries’ surge has been fueled by guard Gabby Reynolds, who has scored in double figures in seven straight games. She is averaging 18.4 points per game during the winning streak, including a 21-point, 6-rebound performance against the Wildcats. “We’re building confidence with each game and focusing on our defensive identity,” said George Washington coach Caroline McCombs. “Gabby has been a consistent force for us, but it’s been a collective effort.” Conversely, Coppin State (2-12) seeks to halt a three-game skid and find consistency away from Baltimore. The Eagles are 0-10 on the road this season, with their most recent trip resulting in an 82-55 loss at Georgia. Guard Paris McBride shined in that defeat, scoring a season-high 20 points to go with five rebounds and four assists. McBride leads the team in assists and is a key facilitator, though the Eagles have struggled offensively, failing to reach 60 points in nine of their 14 games. “Our challenge is putting together a complete 40 minutes, especially against a team playing as well as George Washington,” said Coppin State coach Jermaine Woods. “Paris gives us a spark, but we need more contributions across the board.” The Revolutionaries have excelled defensively during their streak, holding opponents to an average of 51.2 points per game. They will aim to disrupt a Coppin State offense averaging just 53.1 points and shooting 32.8% from the field. This marks the final non-conference tune-up for both squads before league play begins in January. George Washington opens Atlantic 10 action on Dec. 31 at Saint Bonaventure, while Coppin State starts Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play on Jan. 3 at Delaware State. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. EST Sunday in Foggy Bottom.
