FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Interstat) — A pair of surging in-state women’s basketball teams will meet Sunday when the Arkansas Razorbacks host the Arkansas State Red Wolves at Bud Walton Arena. Both squads carry momentum into the nonconference finale. Arkansas (11-3) has won four straight, including an 82-73 victory over Stephen F. Austin last Saturday. Arkansas State (10-3) rides a six-game winning streak, last defeating South Alabama 74-61 on Dec. 20. The Razorbacks’ recent success has been fueled by forward Jenna Lawrence, who is coming off a career-high 24-point, three-block performance. Over the last four games, she is averaging 17.3 points and 5.0 rebounds, providing a consistent interior presence. The Red Wolves counter with guard Mia Tarver, a key scorer during their streak. She posted 15 points in a win over Louisiana-Monroe on Dec. 17 and has reached double figures in four of the last six contests. Arkansas holds a distinct size and power-conference advantage, but the Red Wolves have shown resilience on the road, boasting a 4-2 record away from home with wins at Houston and Kent State. Arkansas is 7-1 at home this season, with the lone loss to Harvard in November. This intrastate matchup offers a final tune-up before league play begins for both. Arkansas opens its Southeastern Conference slate on Jan. 1 against Vanderbilt. Arkansas State starts Sun Belt Conference action the same day at Southern Mississippi. Sunday’s game tips off at 2 p.m. CST. The Razorbacks lead the all-time series 25-2, including a 79-55 victory in the teams’ last meeting in December 2022.
