Preview
NORMAN, Okla. (Interstat) â A surging Oklahoma womenâs basketball team, boasting one of the nationâs most potent offenses, will look to extend its dominance when it hosts struggling North Carolina Central on Monday, Dec. 22, at Lloyd Noble Center. The Sooners (11-1) have won nine consecutive games since their lone loss to UCLA in November, averaging 98.3 points during the streak. Their high-powered attack is led by forward Raegan Beers, who is coming off a 22-point, 12-rebound performance in a 92-70 road win over Oklahoma State on Dec. 13. Over her last six games, Beers has averaged 18.3 points on remarkably efficient shooting. Oklahomaâs offense, which has eclipsed 100 points four times this season, will face a North Carolina Central squad that has struggled defensively. The Eagles (2-9) are allowing 73.5 points per game and have faced several blowout losses against Power Five competition, including a 106-42 defeat at then-South Carolina on Dec. 7. North Carolina Central enters with a bit of momentum after snapping a five-game skid with a 61-51 win at Queens (N.C.) on Dec. 17. The Eagles are led by guard Morgan Callahan, who recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds in that victory. Callahan has been a consistent scorer, averaging 13.2 points per game. However, the matchup presents a stark contrast in trajectories. While Oklahoma prepares to open a daunting Southeastern Conference schedule in January, the Eagles view this as a final major non-conference test before Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play begins. The Soonersâ depth and firepower, featuring additional standouts like Aaliyah Chavez and Sahara Williams, will be a formidable challenge for the Eagles. Oklahoma has won all its home games this season by an average margin of 52.8 points. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CST. Oklahoma will then break for the holidays before opening SEC play at Texas A&M on Jan. 1. North Carolina Centralâs next game is at home against Averett on Dec. 30.
