COLUMBUS, Ohio (Interstat) — A surging Ohio State women’s basketball team looks to continue its dominant non-conference play when it hosts Western Michigan on Monday at Value City Arena. The Buckeyes (10-1) have won nine straight games since a Nov. 16 loss to then-Connecticut, averaging 88.1 points during that stretch. Their offense is fueled by star guard Jaloni Cambridge, who is coming off a 33-point performance against Northern Kentucky on Dec. 11. In her last five games, the sophomore has averaged 20.0 points and 3.6 assists, showcasing the explosive scoring that makes Ohio State a national contender. Western Michigan (3-6) enters on a two-game swing, having split its last two contests. The Broncos fell 65-58 to Dayton on Thursday after a 58-48 win over Valparaiso on Dec. 14. Their success hinges heavily on guard Alli Harness, who is capable of carrying the scoring load. Harness erupted for 23 points in the loss to Dayton and scored 13 in a road win at Loyola Chicago on Dec. 7. The matchup presents a stark contrast in trajectories. Ohio State, a powerhouse from the Big Ten, has beaten its opponents by an average of 33.4 points during its win streak. Western Michigan, out of the Mid-American Conference, has struggled against high-major competition, losing by 18 at Indiana and 54 at Michigan State earlier this season. For the Broncos to compete, they must find a way to contain Cambridge and Ohio State’s high-pressure defense, which forces over 22 turnovers per game. Harness will need another high-output night, and Western Michigan must control the tempo to avoid a track meet. This is the final tune-up for Ohio State before a marquee showdown with UCLA on Dec. 28. Western Michigan opens MAC play on Jan. 3 against Buffalo. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST Monday at Value City Arena.
