Preview: Mercer Bears at Tulane Green Wave NEW ORLEANS (Interstat) — Riding a three-game winning streak, the Mercer Bears visit the Tulane Green Wave in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup Sunday afternoon. Mercer (8-5) arrives after a 64-55 road victory at Detroit on Saturday. The Bears have found their rhythm in December, winning five of their last seven contests. Their success has been fueled by guard Nahawa Diarra, who is coming off a 14-point, six-rebound, four-assist performance against Detroit. Over her last seven games, Diarra is averaging 12.6 points and has posted a double-double. Tulane (5-6) also won comfortably on Saturday, defeating Delaware State 76-44 at home. The Green Wave have alternated wins and losses over their past five games. They will rely on forward Amira Mabry, who nearly recorded a double-double with eight points and 11 rebounds against Delaware State. Mabry has scored in double figures in four of her last six outings. The game presents a contrast in momentum. Mercer seeks its fourth consecutive win, while Tulane aims to secure back-to-back victories for the first time since late November. The Bears have shown defensive prowess during their streak, holding opponents to an average of 48.3 points over the last three games. Tulane’s offense, which erupted for 95 points in a win over New Orleans last week, will test that defense. This is the final nonconference tune-up for both teams before holiday breaks. Mercer opens Southern Conference play on Jan. 2. Tulane begins its American Athletic Conference schedule on Jan. 3. Tip-off is set for Sunday at Devlin Fieldhouse.
