SAINT PAUL, Minn. (Interstat) — The Saint Thomas (Minn.) Tommies look to continue their recent surge when they host the Northern Iowa Panthers in a nonconference women’s basketball game Sunday at Schoenecker Arena. The Tommies (6-6) enter on a four-game winning streak, their most recent a 70-50 victory over Drake on Dec. 13. Guard Jada Hood powered that win with 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists, highlighting a dominant stretch. Over her last four games against Division I opponents, Hood has averaged 15.3 points and 5.8 assists. Northern Iowa (4-6) seeks to rebound from a 53-81 loss at Iowa State on Dec. 14. The Panthers have struggled for consistency, alternating wins and losses over their past six contests. Guard Abby Tuttle led the Panthers with 13 points and five assists in the loss to the Cyclones, showcasing her playmaking ability. Saint Thomas’s offense has found its rhythm during the streak, averaging 84.3 points in wins over Drake, Montana and Northern Arizona. Northern Iowa’s defense, which allows an average of 60.7 points, will be tested. The game is a final nonconference tune-up for both programs before each embarks on its league schedule. Northern Iowa begins Missouri Valley Conference play on Jan. 4. Saint Thomas opens Summit League action on Jan. 8. Tipoff is set for Sunday afternoon. The Tommies will look to protect their home court, where they are 5-2 this season, while the Panthers aim to even their record away from home, currently sitting at 2-3 on the road.
