PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — The Saint Joseph’s Hawks look to continue a strong start to their season when they host the Delaware Blue Hens in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup Sunday. The Hawks (7-3) enter on a high note after a dominant 100-40 victory over Le Moyne on Saturday. Gabby Casey recorded a triple-double in that win with 14 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in just 23 minutes. The junior guard has been a consistent force, averaging 15.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists over her last four games. Delaware (6-4) also won decisively Saturday, defeating Akron 75-56 behind 25 points from Ella Wanzer and 18 points from standout guard Kailah Correa. Correa, the Blue Hens’ primary catalyst, has shown high-scoring ability with 18 points in two of her last three outings, though she was held to four points in a loss to La Salle last week. This game represents a final tune-up before both teams break for the holiday and enter their respective conference schedules. Saint Joseph’s will begin Atlantic 10 play in early January, while Delaware will embark on a Conference USA slate. The Hawks have been strong at home, going 5-1 at Hagan Arena this season. Their defense will be tested by a Delaware offense that averages 68.2 points per game but has been inconsistent, scoring 48 and 59 points in two recent losses. Saint Joseph’s holds a slight edge in record and will aim to leverage its balanced attack, which features four players averaging double figures. Delaware will rely heavily on Correa’s playmaking and Wanzer’s hot hand to challenge on the road. Tipoff is set for Sunday afternoon. Saint Joseph’s will host Arcadia on Dec. 28 in its next contest, while Delaware travels to face Harvard on Dec. 29.
