Texas Puts Perfect Record on the Line at South Dakota State BROOKINGS, S.D. (Interstat) — The top-ranked and undefeated Texas women’s basketball team faces a road test against South Dakota State on Sunday at Frost Arena. The Longhorns (13-0) have dominated their schedule, winning by an average margin of 36.2 points. Their most recent victory was a 96-38 rout of Northwestern State on Wednesday. Texas’s resume includes notable nonconference wins over then-South Carolina (66-64), UCLA, North Carolina and Baylor. South Dakota State (10-3), a perennial mid-major power, seeks a program-defining upset on its home court. The Jackrabbits are coming off a 97-54 loss at Duke on Thursday, their third defeat against a power-conference opponent this season. Those losses — to Duke, Columbia and North Carolina — have all come by double digits. The matchup features two of the nation’s standout forwards. Texas is led by Madison Booker, who is averaging 21.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. She is coming off a 28-point performance against Northwestern State and has scored at least 16 points in every game this season. South Dakota State counters with Brooklyn Meyer, a versatile post player averaging 20.8 points per game. Meyer scored 27 points in the loss at Duke and has been a consistent force, recording at least 14 points in every contest. The Longhorns’ high-pressure defense and transition offense will challenge a Jackrabbits team that struggled against elite athleticism in its losses. South Dakota State will rely on its disciplined system and home-court advantage, where it is 5-0 this season, to try and slow the game’s tempo. This marks the final nonconference tune-up for both squads before league play begins in January. Texas opens Southeastern Conference action at Missouri on Jan. 1, while South Dakota State starts Summit League play at home against St. Thomas on the same day.
