CLINTON, S.C. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum before conference play begins will meet Sunday when the Jacksonville State Gamecocks visit the Presbyterian Blue Hose in a nonconference women’s basketball game. The Gamecocks (5-6) enter the contest at Templeton Center looking to rebound from a 74-54 road loss at Saint Louis on Wednesday. Despite the defeat, guard Mya Barnes continued her strong play, scoring 18 points with eight rebounds and four assists. Barnes has been a consistent force, averaging 13.3 points and 6.2 rebounds over her last six games, including a 22-point performance in a win at New Orleans and a 12-point, 13-rebound, five-block effort against Mercer. Presbyterian (2-10) aims to snap a six-game losing streak, most recently an 81-61 home loss to Eastern Kentucky on Friday. Morgan Boyd led the Blue Hose with 15 points in that contest. Boyd has shown scoring flashes, averaging 8.7 points per game during the skid, but Presbyterian has struggled defensively, allowing an average of 80.3 points in those six losses. Jacksonville State has found success against lower-tier competition, with three of its five wins coming against non-Division I opponents Point U., Brewton-Parker and LaGrange. Its most notable Division I victory was a 72-62 win over Mercer earlier this month. Presbyterian’s two wins came against Erskine, another non-Division I foe, and UNC Greensboro. The matchup will feature a contrast in recent trajectories. Jacksonville State has won three of its last five games against Division I opponents, while Presbyterian has not defeated a Division I team since Nov. 14. The Gamecocks will rely on Barnes and Brooklyn McDaniel, who added 13 points and eight rebounds against Saint Louis, to control the tempo. Presbyterian will need Boyd and Aretha Linger, who had four blocks last game, to provide a spark at both ends. Following this game, both teams break for the holidays before embarking on their conference schedules. Jacksonville State begins Conference USA play on Jan. 2, while Presbyterian opens Big South Conference action on Dec. 31. Tip-off is set for Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, at the Templeton Center.
