BALTIMORE (Interstat) β Two teams seeking momentum before conference play begins will meet Sunday when the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds host the Morgan State Bears in a nonconference womenβs basketball game at Reitz Arena. The Greyhounds (3-7) enter with a two-game winning streak, including a 60-57 victory at Maryland-Baltimore County on Dec. 9. Guard Kimmie Hicks led the way in that win with 14 points and has been a key contributor, averaging 10.5 points and 4.3 rebounds over her last four contests. Loyola Maryland has shown resilience in close games, also earning a 64-63 overtime win at Towson on Dec. 4. Morgan State (1-13) is mired in a 10-game losing streak, most recently falling 78-34 at Davidson on Friday. The Bears have struggled offensively, failing to reach 50 points in six of those losses and facing a brutal early schedule with road games against power-conference opponents like LSU, Kentucky and Wake Forest. A player to watch for the Bears is forward Maya Woodson, who is coming off a strong performance at Davidson with 9 points and 9 rebounds in 32 minutes. She has been a consistent presence on the boards, recording at least 7 rebounds in four games this season. This intrastate matchup offers Loyola Maryland a chance to build on its recent success at home, while Morgan State views it as a critical opportunity to reset before visiting Towson on Dec. 30. The Greyhounds will look to leverage their recent experience in tight finishes, while the Bears aim to find an offensive rhythm that has eluded them during their prolonged skid. Following this game, Loyola Maryland opens Patriot League play at home against American on Dec. 31. Morgan State begins Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action on the road at Maryland-Eastern Shore on Jan. 3. Tipoff is set for Sunday afternoon in Baltimore.
