Smith Center. Northwestern (6-5) arrives in the nation’s capital looking to halt a five-game skid. The Wildcats are coming off a heartbreaking 69-68 home loss to Loyola Chicago on Thursday, a game in which standout guard Tayla Thomas poured in a season-high 30 points. Thomas has been a bright spot during the losing streak, averaging 12 points per game, but Northwestern has struggled defensively, allowing an average of 79.6 points in those five defeats. George Washington (7-5) enters on a five-game winning streak, having found its footing after a 2-5 start. The Revolutionaries have relied on a stifling defense during the run, holding opponents to an average of 49.2 points per game. Their most recent victory was a 70-44 rout of American on Dec. 14. The game features a compelling backcourt matchup between Northwestern’s Thomas and George Washington’s Gabby Reynolds.
