Preview: Northwestern Wildcats at George Washington Revolutionaries WASHINGTON (Interstat) — Two teams trending in opposite directions will meet Sunday when the Northwestern Wildcats visit the George Washington Revolutionaries in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup at the Charles E. Smith Center. Northwestern (6-5) arrives in the nation’s capital looking to halt a five-game skid. The Wildcats are coming off a heartbreaking 69-68 home loss to Loyola Chicago on Thursday, a game in which standout guard Tayla Thomas poured in a season-high 30 points. Thomas has been a bright spot during the losing streak, averaging 12 points per game, but Northwestern has struggled defensively, allowing an average of 79.6 points in those five defeats. George Washington (7-5) enters on a five-game winning streak, having found its footing after a 2-5 start. The Revolutionaries have relied on a stifling defense during the run, holding opponents to an average of 49.2 points per game. Their most recent victory was a 70-44 rout of American on Dec. 14. The game features a compelling backcourt matchup between Northwestern’s Thomas and George Washington’s Gabby Reynolds. Reynolds has been instrumental in the Revolutionaries’ surge, scoring in double figures in six straight games and averaging 19.2 points over the active win streak. Her offensive efficiency will test a Wildcats defense seeking consistency. For Northwestern, containing Reynolds and generating offense beyond Thomas will be critical. Caroline Lau, who had 12 points and nine assists against Loyola Chicago, will need to facilitate effectively. George Washington will aim to extend its home-court advantage and continue building momentum before Atlantic 10 play begins in earnest next month. Sunday’s contest tips off at 2 p.m. EST. It is the final nonconference tune-up for George Washington before hosting Coppin State on Dec. 28. Northwestern continues a tough road stretch, visiting Washington on Dec. 29.
