CHARLESTON, Ill. (Interstat) — A surging Lindenwood team visits a struggling Eastern Illinois squad in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup Sunday at Lantz Arena. The Lions (7-4) enter with a winning record, while the Panthers (1-11) seek to halt an extended slump. The game is organized by the Ohio Valley Conference. Lindenwood is coming off a 74-65 home loss to Western Illinois on Thursday but had won three of its previous four games. The Lions are led by guard Ellie Brueggemann, who is averaging 12.2 points and 3.6 assists per game. She scored 13 points with six assists in the loss to Western Illinois and had 17 points in a road game against Iowa on Dec. 13. Eastern Illinois is mired in a difficult season, with its lone victory a 68-63 win at Bellarmine on Nov. 29. The Panthers are coming off a heartbreaking 59-52 double-overtime loss to SIU Edwardsville on Thursday. In that game, guard Ava Stoller played all 48 minutes, scoring 22 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Stoller leads the Panthers in scoring, averaging 12.8 points per game. The Panthers have struggled offensively, failing to reach 60 points in eight of their 12 games. Defensively, they have allowed an average of 73.3 points per contest. Lindenwood has shown more offensive consistency, averaging 69.5 points per game while holding opponents to 62.5. Beyond Brueggemann, Brooke Coffey (16 points) and Mya Skoff (15 points) provided scoring punch in the Lions’ last outing. This is the first meeting between the programs. Following this game, both teams break for the holidays before commencing their OVC schedules in January. Lindenwood hosts Ottawa on Dec. 29, while Eastern Illinois opens conference play at Southeast Missouri State on Jan. 1. Tipoff is set for Sunday afternoon.
