GREENVILLE, N.C. (Interstat) ā A pair of teams riding winning streaks and sporting identical records will meet Sunday when the Campbell womenās basketball team visits East Carolina at Williams Arena. Both the Fightinā Camels and Pirates enter the nonconference finale at 7-5 overall. Campbell has won three straight, including a 68-63 victory over Norfolk State on Monday. East Carolina has won its last three games by an average of 17.7 points, most recently an 80-59 rout of Wofford on Wednesday. The matchup features two of the regionās most dynamic guards in Campbellās Jasmine Nivar and East Carolinaās Taylor Barner. Nivar is coming off a 20-point performance in 21 minutes against Norfolk State and has scored in double figures in five of her last six games. Barner, however, is in the midst of a torrid scoring stretch for the Pirates. She erupted for a career-high 30 points against Wofford and is averaging 25.3 points over her last three contests. Campbellās recent surge has been fueled by defense, holding opponents to 52.0 points per game during the three-game streak. The Fightinā Camels will need that defensive focus to contain Barner and an ECU offense that has averaged 73.0 points in its current homestand. East Carolina, which opens American Athletic Conference play on Dec. 30, has found its rhythm after a 1-3 start. The Pirates are 6-2 at home this season. Campbell, a member of the Coastal Athletic Association, begins its conference slate on Jan. 2. Sundayās game will be the final tune-up for both teams before league play begins. The Pirates hold a 15-5 advantage in the all-time series, but the programs have not met since 2017. Tipoff is set for Sunday afternoon. The game will be a test of Campbellās defensive resilience against an East Carolina team that has been explosive on its home floor.
