DAVIDSON, N.C. (Interstat) â Khamil Pierre scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead North Carolina State to a 68-59 womenâs basketball victory over Davidson on Sunday at Belk Arena. The Wolfpack (9-4) closed its nonconference schedule by holding off the Wildcats (8-5). Pierre, a 6-foot-2 sophomore from Phoenix, added a block in 36 minutes. Zamareya Jones added 19 points and six rebounds for N.C. State. Davidson was led by Charlise Dunn, who scored 21 points and collected eight rebounds. The Wildcatsâ Edina Strausz contributed nine rebounds and two blocks. N.C. State led by nine points at halftime and maintained control throughout the second half. The Wolfpack begins Atlantic Coast Conference play Jan. 1 against Stanford.

(Interstat) â A pair of teams riding winning streaks and sporting identical records will meet Sunday when the North Carolina State Wolfpack visit the Davidson Wildcats in a nonconference womenâs basketball matchup at Belk Arena. Both teams enter at 8-4 overall. North Carolina State has won four straight, including an 87-58 rout of Georgia Tech on Thursday. Davidson has won its last two, most recently a 78-34 victory over Morgan State on Friday. The Wolfpackâs surge has been fueled by guard Zamareya Jones. Over her last seven games, the dynamic playmaker is averaging 17.1 points and 4.7 assists, including a 26-point outing in a narrow overtime loss at Oklahoma. She is coming off a 17-point, 7-assist performance against Georgia Tech. Davidson counters with forward Edina Strausz, who posted a near double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds in limited minutes against Morgan State. Her season has been marked by efficient production in variable playing time, including a 10-point game in a close road loss at Baylor. North Carolina Stateâs offense has been potent during its streak, averaging 84.3 points over the last three contests. Davidsonâs defense has been stifling in its wins, holding its last two opponents to an average of 49.5 points. This game serves as a final nonconference tune-up before both teams dive into league play in January. The Wolfpack will open Atlantic Coast Conference action at home against Stanford on Jan. 1.
