DAVIDSON, N.C. (Interstat) — A pair of teams riding winning streaks and sporting identical records will meet Sunday when the North Carolina State Wolfpack visit the Davidson Wildcats in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup at Belk Arena. Both teams enter at 8-4 overall. North Carolina State has won four straight, including an 87-58 rout of Georgia Tech on Thursday. Davidson has won its last two, most recently a 78-34 victory over Morgan State on Friday. The Wolfpack’s surge has been fueled by guard Zamareya Jones. Over her last seven games, the dynamic playmaker is averaging 17.1 points and 4.7 assists, including a 26-point outing in a narrow overtime loss at Oklahoma. She is coming off a 17-point, 7-assist performance against Georgia Tech. Davidson counters with forward Edina Strausz, who posted a near double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds in limited minutes against Morgan State. Her season has been marked by efficient production in variable playing time, including a 10-point game in a close road loss at Baylor. North Carolina State’s offense has been potent during its streak, averaging 84.3 points over the last three contests. Davidson’s defense has been stifling in its wins, holding its last two opponents to an average of 49.5 points. This game serves as a final nonconference tune-up before both teams dive into league play in January. The Wolfpack will open Atlantic Coast Conference action at home against Stanford on Jan. 1. The Wildcats begin Atlantic 10 play on the road at Loyola Chicago on Dec. 31. Sunday’s contest tips off at 2 p.m. EST.
