Undefeated Arizona State Hosts Colorado in Big 12 Women’s Basketball Showdown TEMPE, Ariz. (Interstat) — The unbeaten and No. 7-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils put their perfect record on the line Sunday when they host the Colorado Buffaloes in a Big 12 conference women’s basketball matchup at Wells Fargo Arena. Arizona State (13-0) is one of the nation’s last remaining undefeated teams, coming off a tight 68-66 road win at Gonzaga on Tuesday. The Sun Devils have navigated a challenging non-conference slate, including overtime wins at Oregon State and against UNLV. The Sun Devils are powered by guard Gabby Elliott, who is averaging 22.3 points over her last three games. She erupted for a season-high 30 points in 38 minutes in the victory at Gonzaga. “Gabby has been our engine, especially in these close games,“ said Arizona State coach Natasha Adair. “Her ability to create and finish under pressure has been the difference.“ They face a Colorado team (9-3) that has won three straight, including a 79-62 victory over Northern Colorado on Tuesday. The Buffaloes’ losses have come against ranked Louisville and in narrow defeats to Montana State and Texas A&M. Colorado will look to forward Jade Masogayo to provide offensive punch. She scored 17 points in 21 minutes against Northern Colorado and is coming off a 19-point, 6-rebound performance against Miami (Ohio) on Dec. 14. “Jade’s efficiency has been key for us,“ Colorado coach JR Payne said. “When she’s aggressive and scoring, it opens up everything else for our offense.“ The game marks an early test in the new-look Big 12. Arizona State’s defense, allowing just 56.2 points per game, will be challenged by a Colorado offense that has topped 75 points in four of its last five wins. “We know what’s coming. They’re long, athletic, and they defend at a high level,“ Payne said of Arizona State. “We have to value every possession.“ For the Sun Devils, maintaining their focus amid growing national attention is the priority. “Every game is a target now,“ Elliott said. “Colorado is a physical, well-coached team. We have to protect home court and start conference play the right way.“ Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. MST.
