Preview: Green Bay Phoenix at Miami (Ohio) RedHawks OXFORD, Ohio (Interstat) — Two teams riding opposite momentum swings will meet Saturday when the Green Bay Phoenix visit the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks in a non-conference women’s basketball matchup. The Phoenix (8-4) look to rebound from a narrow road loss, while the RedHawks (7-4) aim to halt a skid against power conference opponents. Tipoff is set for Dec. 20 at Millett Hall. Green Bay arrives after a 79-74 defeat at Washington on Dec. 13, a game where they rallied from a 16-point deficit but fell short. The Phoenix had won three straight prior to that, including decisive victories over IU Indy, Youngstown State and Northern Kentucky. Their defense has been a hallmark, holding opponents under 50 points four times this season. Miami (Ohio) is coming off a 75-55 loss at Colorado on Dec. 14, its second straight defeat against a major conference foe following an overtime win at Cincinnati on Dec. 3. The RedHawks have shown offensive firepower at home, averaging 80.7 points in their last three games in Oxford. A key matchup will feature each team’s leading scorer. Green Bay’s Jenna Guyer is averaging 13.1 points per game and is coming off a 19-point, 8-rebound performance against Washington. The junior forward has scored in double figures in seven of her last eight contests. For Miami (Ohio), guard Amber Scalia provides consistent offense, averaging 13.2 points. She scored 18 points in the loss to Colorado and has been a steady presence, logging over 30 minutes in six consecutive games. Green Bay’s balance will be tested. Alongside Guyer, Maddy Skorupski (14 points, 8 rebounds vs. Washington) and point guard Kamy Peppler, who dished 9 assists against the Huskies, are pivotal. Miami (Ohio) counters with Scalia and forward Amber Tretter, who had 14 points and 4 rebounds against Colorado. This game serves as a final non-conference tune-up before both teams dive into league play after the holidays. Green Bay opens Horizon League action on Dec. 30, while Miami (Ohio) begins Mid-American Conference play on Dec. 31.
