PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) ā The Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs delivered a defensive masterclass, overwhelming the La Salle Explorers from the opening tip and cruising to an 85-37 victory in a nonconference womenās basketball game Saturday at Tom Gola Arena. The most important part of the game was its immediate and decisive tone, set by a relentless Mississippi State defense that smothered La Salleās offense and created a cascade of transition opportunities. The Explorers were held to a season-low in points and a frigid 24.2% shooting from the field, including just 4 of 20 from three-point range. The Lady Bulldogs forced 19 turnovers, converting them into 31 points, and dominated the interior with a 46-22 advantage in points in the paint. Mississippi Stateās offensive execution was nearly as impressive, posting an offensive rating of 115.3 points per 100 possessions. The Lady Bulldogs shot 48.6% from the field and were led by a standout performance from guard Destiney McPhaul. The Philadelphia native, playing in her hometown, orchestrated the offense with a double-double of 16 points and 10 assists in 35 minutes, consistently breaking down the La Salle defense. She was complemented by a dominant inside presence from forward Favour Nwaedozi, who recorded a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds. Forward Jaylah Lampley led all scorers with 18 points, while Chandler Prater added 10 points and 10 rebounds for another double-double. The Lady Bulldogsā balance was evident as they tallied 13 assists and 13 steals as a team. La Salle, which entered the game with an 8-3 record, never found an offensive rhythm. The Explorers were held without a field goal for stretches exceeding five minutes in both the first and third quarters as the game slipped away. Mississippi State established control early. After a three-pointer from La Salleās Macktoon opened the scoring, the Lady Bulldogs responded with a 12-0 run, fueled by their defense. The period set the pattern for the afternoon: La Salle misses followed by Mississippi State baskets in transition or via second-chance opportunities, with the Lady Bulldogs securing 15 offensive rebounds. By halftime, the lead had ballooned to 25 points, and the second half offered no respite for the overmatched Explorers.
