BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging Eastern Washington women’s basketball team will look to extend its winning streak when it visits Cal State Bakersfield in a nonconference matchup Saturday at Icardo Center. The Eagles (6-4) enter on a three-game win streak, highlighted by a 71-69 road victory at Washington State on Dec. 10. Eastern Washington has shown resilience in close games, with its last three wins coming by a combined eight points. Cal State Bakersfield (4-7) has won two straight, including a 67-55 home win over Cal St. East Bay on Tuesday. The Roadrunners will seek to build momentum before opening Big West Conference play next month. A key matchup will feature Eastern Washington guard Elyn Bowers against Cal State Bakersfield’s Chrishawn Coleman. Bowers is coming off a 20-point, four-assist performance in the win at Washington State and has averaged 15.4 points over her last five games. Coleman has been on a tear for the Roadrunners, averaging 22.3 points and 6.7 rebounds over her last three contests. She scored 25 points in Tuesday’s victory. Eastern Washington’s recent success has been a balanced effort. In the win over Washington State, Ella Gallatin scored 22 points and Jaecy Eggers added 18. The Eagles will need that depth against a Roadrunners defense that held its last two opponents to an average of 53 points. For Cal State Bakersfield, supporting Coleman’s offensive output will be crucial. Morgan Hawkins and Marley Langi, who combined for 26 points and 12 rebounds against Cal St. East Bay, provide secondary scoring options. This game concludes the nonconference slate for both teams. Eastern Washington begins Big Sky Conference play on Jan. 3, while Cal State Bakersfield opens Big West action at UC Irvine on Jan. 1. Tipoff is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
