LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Interstat) â A surging Fairfield womenâs basketball team looks to continue its winning ways when it visits struggling Rider in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup Friday at Alumni Gymnasium. The Stags (6-3) enter on a two-game win streak, including a dominant 74-51 victory over Maine last Friday. Fairfieldâs offense has been potent, averaging 77.2 points per game during its current 4-2 stretch. Guard Kaety LâAmoreaux has been the catalyst, coming off a 31-point performance in a win at Richmond on Dec. 7 and scoring 17 against Maine. Over her last five games, the standout guard is averaging 20.0 points, 4.2 assists and 3.4 rebounds. Conversely, the Broncs (2-7) have lost four of their last five, including a low-scoring 46-34 home loss to Wagner last Saturday. Rider has struggled offensively, failing to reach 60 points in six of its nine games. Forward Kristina Ekofo Yomane will be key if Rider is to spring an upset; she nearly posted a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds in a narrow 53-52 loss to Yale on Dec. 6. The matchup pits Fairfieldâs high-scoring attack against a Rider team allowing just 60.2 points per game at home this season. The Stagsâ recent road form, however, is strong, with wins at Richmond and Villanova. Fairfieldâs Meghan Andersen (15 points vs. Maine) and Cyanne Coe provide additional scoring depth. For Rider, sustaining offense beyond Ekofo Yomane is critical. Guard Aina Perez Mesquida, who logged 40 minutes and scored 11 points in the Wagner game, will need to help shoulder the load. This game opens MAAC play for both squads. Fairfield seeks to solidify its status as a conference contender, while Rider aims to reset its season on home court. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Friday.
