CLINTON, S.C. (Interstat) — A surging Eastern Kentucky women’s basketball team looks to rebound from a rare stumble when it visits struggling Presbyterian in a nonconference matchup Friday at Templeton Center. The Lady Colonels (7-3) enter having won five of their last seven, though they are coming off a 75-50 home loss to Marshall on Sunday. That defeat snapped a two-game win streak that included a narrow 83-87 road loss at Arizona on Dec. 10, a game that demonstrated the team’s competitive mettle. Eastern Kentucky will rely heavily on guard Liz Freihofer, who has been a consistent force. Over her last five games, Freihofer is averaging 16.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists, including a 27-point, 6-assist performance in a win over Midway. In the loss to Marshall, she nearly posted a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. The home-standing Blue Hose (2-9) seek to end a seven-game skid. Presbyterian has faced a rigorous schedule, with recent blowout losses to Power Five opponent Virginia Tech (92-36) and Furman. A bright spot has been the emergence of guard Aminata Tal, who has scored in double figures in three of the last five games, including a 17-point effort at Furman on Dec. 3. For Presbyterian, defense will be paramount. The Blue Hose have allowed 87 or more points in four of their nine losses this season. Containing Freihofer and Eastern Kentucky’s backcourt, which includes playmaker Althea Kara Angeles (eight assists vs. Marshall), presents a significant challenge. Eastern Kentucky’s offense, which put up 107 points in a late-November rout of Midway, will test a Presbyterian squad searching for consistency. The Lady Colonels have shown balance, with Ndidiamaka Ndukwe adding 15 points in the Marshall game. This contest is the final nonconference tune-up for Presbyterian before it hosts Jacksonville State on Sunday. Eastern Kentucky continues its road swing before returning home to face Hampton on Dec. 29. Tip-off is set for Friday night in Clinton.
