Both teams enter the neutral-site contest in Hawaii coming off narrow defeats last Sunday. Montana State (6-3) fell 69-44 at Oregon, while Oregon State (6-5) dropped a 55-53 overtime heartbreaker to Arizona State at home. The Bobcats have shown a pattern of strong performances against mid-major opponents but have struggled against Power Five competition, with their lone signature win a 71-70 victory at Colorado on Nov. 30. Guard Jamison Philip is a key catalyst for Montana State. She scored 14 points in 24 minutes against Oregon, following a seven-assist outing in a loss at North Dakota State. Her playmaking will be central against Oregon State’s defense. The Beavers have faced a demanding schedule, with five of their losses coming against major-conference foes, including Oregon and Virginia Tech. Guard Jenna Villa has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 37 minutes over her last five games. She scored 18 points in the overtime loss to Arizona State and poured in a season-high 27 points in a loss at Oregon on Dec. 3. Montana State’s offense, which averages 76.2 points per game, will be tested by an Oregon State defense that has held opponents to 64.5 points on average. The Bobcats are 0-2 this season when scoring 65 points or fewer. This game serves as a final tune-up before both teams break for the holidays. Montana State remains in Hawaii to face the University of Hawaii on Saturday, while Oregon State will host Liberty the same day. Tip-off is scheduled for Friday evening.
