MAKAWAO, Hawaii (Interstat) — The Hawaii Warriors and Liberty Lady Flames meet in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup Friday at Seabury Hall. Hawaii (5-5) enters having snapped a five-game skid with a 61-47 home win over Hawaii Hilo on Dec. 11. Liberty (6-3) looks to rebound from a 76-61 loss to Richmond on Dec. 13 that ended a four-game winning streak. A key matchup will feature versatile forwards Imani Perez of Hawaii and Liberty’s Ify Nwaobi. Perez is coming off a stretch of strong all-around play, including a 10-point, 13-rebound, five-block performance in an 80-82 loss at Cal State Fullerton on Dec. 6. For the Lady Flames, Nwaobi has been a consistent force, posting a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds in the loss to Richmond. The Warriors have relied on balanced scoring. In the win over Hawaii Hilo, Bailey Flavell added 9 points and Jovi Lefotu scored 8. Liberty’s offense looks to Nwaobi and guards Claudia Acin and Avery Mills, who combined for 36 points against Richmond. This game is a rare home-state contest for Hawaii as the designated visitor. The Warriors begin a stretch of nine straight Big West Conference games after this. Liberty, which faces Oregon State on Saturday, opens Conference USA play in January. Friday’s game tips off at 7 p.m. local time at Seabury Hall.
