DAVIDSON, N.C. (Interstat) — The Davidson Wildcats look to rebound from a road loss and capitalize on a favorable nonconference matchup when they host the struggling Morgan State Bears in women’s basketball Friday at Belk Arena. Davidson (6-4) enters the contest following a 71-61 defeat at Charlotte on Dec. 14, which snapped a three-game winning streak. The Wildcats have been strong at home this season, posting a 4-1 record at Belk Arena. Guard Jasmine Timmerson, coming off a season-high 13 points and four assists against Charlotte, will be a key player for a Davidson offense averaging 67.2 points per game. Morgan State (1-12) seeks to end a 10-game skid, a stretch marked by challenging road games against power-conference opponents. The Bears are coming off a 91-33 loss at LSU on Tuesday, where they were held to 23.6% shooting from the field. Morgan State averages just 52.2 points per game and has been outscored by an average of 28.5 points during its losing streak. Guard Mihjae Hayes will be a focal point for the Bears. She has scored in double figures three times this season, including a 13-point performance at Kentucky on Nov. 28, and leads the team in assists. Morgan State’s lone victory was an 88-49 home win over Washington Adventist on Nov. 12. For Davidson, balance has been a strength. In the loss to Charlotte, Charlise Dunn scored 15 points and Katie Donovan added 16. The Wildcats’ defense, allowing 63.2 points per game, will look to pressure a Morgan State team that has committed an average of 21.5 turnovers in its last two games. This is the first meeting between the programs. Following this game, Davidson faces a quick turnaround with a home test against North Carolina State on Sunday. Morgan State continues its road trip at Loyola Maryland on Sunday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
