ABILENE, Texas (Interstat) β The Montana Lady Griz look to snap a two-game skid when they visit the Abilene Christian Wildcats in a nonconference womenβs basketball matchup Friday night at Moody Coliseum. Montana (2-7) arrives after a 54-60 loss at Houston on Tuesday, its seventh defeat in the last eight games. The Lady Griz have struggled offensively, averaging just 62.2 points per game. They will lean on guard Jocelyn Land, who is coming off a 15-point, seven-rebound performance against Houston. Land erupted for 30 points in a road win over North Dakota on Dec. 3, showcasing her scoring potential. Abilene Christian (6-4) aims to rebound from a 57-67 loss at Texas Tech last Sunday. The Wildcats have been more potent on offense, averaging 73.2 points, led by standout guard Payton Hull. Hull scored 23 points in 40 minutes against Texas Tech and is averaging 20.3 points over her last three contests. She dropped 29 points with five rebounds and five assists in a blowout win over McMurry on Dec. 2. The Wildcats have been strong at home, posting a 4-1 record in Abilene this season, including a 112-point outburst against McMurry. Montana is 0-5 in true road games, with those losses coming by an average of 26.6 points. For Montana to compete, they will need secondary scoring behind Land. Mack Konig (13 points) and Avery Waddington (7 points, 8 rebounds) provided support against Houston and must contribute again. The Lady Griz defense, allowing 75.7 points per game, faces a significant test against Hull and a deep Wildcats roster that features double-figure contributors in Breanna Davis and Emma Troxell. This game is the first of a two-game Texas swing for Montana, which faces Tarleton State on Saturday. Abilene Christian hosts Buffalo on Saturday to conclude a brief homestand. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST Friday at Moody Coliseum.
