Preview: UC San Diego Tritons at California Baptist Lancers RIVERSIDE, Calif. (Interstat) — Two teams trending in opposite directions will meet Monday when the UC San Diego Tritons visit the California Baptist Lancers in a nonconference women’s basketball game at CBU Events Center. The Tritons (5-4) enter on a three-game winning streak, including a dominant 75-45 victory over Long Beach State on Dec. 6. UC San Diego’s offense has found its rhythm, averaging 80.3 points during the streak. A key catalyst has been guard Erin Condron. Over her last six games, the junior is averaging 16.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists, including a 19-point, 7-rebound, 5-assist performance against Long Beach State. She is supported by backcourt mate Rosa Smith, who poured in a season-high 27 points in that same game. Conversely, the Lancers (6-4) look to halt a two-game skid, most recently a 77-57 loss at UC Irvine on Saturday. California Baptist has struggled offensively in the losses, averaging just 57.5 points after scoring 80 or more in three of their first eight contests. Guard Reyleigh Hess, who led the Lancers with 12 points against UC Irvine, will be a focal point. The team will need a more consistent defensive effort after allowing opponents to shoot 47.1% from the field during the losing streak. The matchup pits UC San Diego’s recent offensive surge against a California Baptist squad seeking to rediscover its early-season form at home, where it is 4-1 this season. The Tritons have yet to win a true road game (0-3), with their wins away from home coming at neutral sites. Monday’s contest is the final nonconference tune-up for both programs before holiday breaks. UC San Diego begins Big West play on Jan. 1. California Baptist opens Western Athletic Conference action on Dec. 29. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST.
