Winless Valparaiso Faces Western Michigan in Nonconference Finale KALAMAZOO, Mich. (Interstat) — The Valparaiso Beacons, still in search of their first win, conclude their nonconference schedule on the road Sunday against the Western Michigan Broncos. The women’s basketball game is set for 2 p.m. EST at University Arena. Valparaiso (0-10) is coming off a 76-69 home loss to SIU Edwardsville on Friday, a game in which the Beacons showed offensive life but fell short. Guard Allia von Schlegell led the way with 18 points. She has been a bright spot, averaging 12.3 points over her last three games, including a season-high 18 in the most recent outing. The Beacons’ struggles have been consistent, with their last seven losses all by double digits prior to the seven-point defeat Friday. Their season-opening loss to Milwaukee in overtime on Nov. 16 remains their closest contest. Western Michigan (2-5) snapped a three-game skid with a 58-45 road victory at Loyola Chicago on Dec. 7. Guard Alli Harness paced the Broncos with 13 points in that win and is averaging 9.0 points per game over her last three. The Broncos have found wins hard to come by but have been competitive outside of a 98-44 loss at Michigan State. Their other victory was a 65-64 road win at Milwaukee on Nov. 13. For Valparaiso, the matchup represents a final opportunity to build momentum before Missouri Valley Conference play begins next month. Western Michigan looks to enter its Mid-American Conference slate with a winning streak. Following this game, Valparaiso hosts Central Michigan on Wednesday. Western Michigan begins a two-game homestand against Dayton on Thursday.
