Preview: Georgia Tech Visits Wake Forest in ACC Women’s Basketball Clash WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Interstat) — A struggling Georgia Tech team aims to upset a surging Wake Forest squad when the Atlantic Coast Conference rivals meet in women’s basketball Sunday at Joel Coliseum. The Wake Forest Demon Deacons (9-2) enter as heavy favorites, having won nine of their first 11 games. Their strong start contrasts sharply with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets’ 4-7 record. The Demon Deacons seek to rebound from a narrow 58-56 home loss to Georgetown on Dec. 7, which snapped a six-game winning streak. Wake Forest will rely on forward Grace Oliver, who has been a consistent force. She scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the loss to Georgetown, her fourth game with 13 or more points in the last five outings. Georgia Tech is reeling from a 50-82 road loss at West Virginia on Thursday, its fourth defeat in the last five games. The Yellow Jackets have struggled offensively, failing to reach 65 points in six of their seven losses. Guard Savannah Samuel has been a bright spot for Georgia Tech, scoring in double figures in seven of the last eight games. She led the team with 13 points in the loss at West Virginia. The Demon Deacons have dominated recent matchups at home, winning the last three meetings in Winston-Salem. Georgia Tech’s last victory at Joel Coliseum came in 2019. Wake Forest’s defense, which has held opponents under 50 points twice this season, will test a Georgia Tech offense averaging just 62.5 points per game in its losses. The game tips off at 2 p.m. EST Sunday. For Wake Forest, it’s the final non-conference tune-up before ACC play resumes in January. Georgia Tech looks to find momentum before visiting North Carolina State next Thursday.
