Preview: North Alabama Lions at South Alabama Jaguars MOBILE, Ala. (Interstat) — The South Alabama women’s basketball team looks to snap a two-game skid when it hosts in-state foe North Alabama at Mitchell Center on Sunday. The Jaguars (6-3) enter following consecutive road losses at Louisiana Tech (82-80) and Florida (75-61). South Alabama has been strong at home this season, boasting a 5-1 record in Mobile. North Alabama (5-3) arrives with momentum from a narrow 68-66 road victory at Samford last Sunday. The Lions have alternated wins and losses over their past five games. A key matchup will feature South Alabama’s Diawna Carter-Hartley against North Alabama’s Venla Ulander. Carter-Hartley, a consistent contributor, is averaging 9.6 points over her last five games. She scored 12 points in the loss at Florida. Ulander is coming off a career performance, scoring 21 points in 29 minutes in the win at Samford. Her production has been variable, however, with limited minutes in three of the previous four contests. In the Samford win, North Alabama was led by Ulander’s 21 points and a 19-point effort from Sofia Ceppellotti. South Alabama, in its loss at Florida, saw Carter-Hartley and Cordasia Harris each score 12 points, while Chrysta Narcisse dished out six assists. Historically, South Alabama holds a 7-2 advantage in the series, including a 72-59 victory in their most recent meeting on Dec. 17, 2022. Following this contest, South Alabama travels to face Southern Mississippi on Thursday. North Alabama visits Alabama A&M on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for Sunday afternoon.
