FORT WORTH, Texas (Interstat) — A top-five showdown between undefeated Texas and Baylor will highlight the women’s college basketball weekend when the rivals meet Sunday at Lupton Stadium. The second-ranked Longhorns (11-0) have steamrolled their schedule, including ranked wins over then-North Carolina and then-UCLA, plus a dramatic 66-64 road victory at then-South Carolina. Baylor (10-1), whose only loss came 57-52 to then-Iowa, brings a potent offense averaging 80.5 points per game. The matchup features two of the nation’s premier guards. Texas is led by preseason All-American Madison Booker, who is coming off a 28-point, 10-assist performance in a 110-45 rout of Texas-Rio Grande Valley. For the season, she averages 18.2 points, 5.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds. Baylor’s Taliah Scott has been on a scoring tear, averaging 23.0 points. She dropped 30 points in just 24 minutes in the Lady Bears’ 90-36 win over Alabama State on Tuesday and scored 32 in the loss to Iowa. Her backcourt mate, Jana Van Gytenbeek, recorded a triple-double (10 points, 10 rebounds, 13 assists) in that same game. While both teams boast high-powered offenses, Texas’s defense has been historically stout, holding opponents to a nation-leading 46.5 points per game. Baylor’s defense is no slouch, ranking 12th nationally at 52.5 points allowed per contest. This marks the first meeting between the programs since Texas joined the Southeastern Conference. The Longhorns hold a 71-46 all-time series edge, but Baylor won the last matchup 85-79 in the 2023 Big 12 Tournament. Sunday’s winner will claim early bragging rights in the realigned landscape and a signature non-conference victory to bolster its NCAA tournament resume. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. CST.
