Preview: Toledo Rockets at Ohio State Buckeyes COLUMBUS, Ohio (Interstat) — A surging Ohio State women’s basketball team, ranked sixth nationally, looks to continue its dominant start when it hosts the Toledo Rockets at Value City Arena on Sunday, Dec. 14. The Buckeyes (8-1) have won seven straight since a season-opening road loss to then-Connecticut, averaging 89.1 points per game during that stretch. Their offense is fueled by star guard Jaloni Cambridge, who is coming off a 33-point performance in a 94-62 rout of Northern Kentucky on Thursday. Over her last four games, the sophomore is averaging 25.8 points. “We’re playing with great pace and sharing the ball,” Ohio State coach Kevin McGuff said. “When Jaloni is aggressive like that, it opens everything up for everyone else.” Toledo (3-4) enters on a two-game skid, including a 52-68 home loss to Northern Iowa last Saturday. The Rockets will lean on guard Kendall Carruthers, who scored 19 in that defeat and erupted for 27 points in a win over Morgan State on Dec. 2. She averages a team-high 15.3 points. “We have to control tempo and limit our turnovers,” Toledo coach Tricia Cullop said. “Ohio State thrives in transition. We need to be disciplined and make them work in the half-court.” The Buckeyes’ pressure defense, forcing over 22 turnovers per game, will challenge a Toledo team averaging 15.4 giveaways. Ohio State’s depth is also a key factor, with Kennedy Cambridge and Ava Watson providing consistent secondary scoring. This marks the first meeting between the in-state programs since 2019, a 72-56 Ohio State victory. The Buckeyes have won 15 straight in the series dating to 1980. For Toledo, a strong showing would provide a crucial resume boost before Mid-American Conference play begins next month. For Ohio State, it’s a final tune-up before a highly anticipated showdown with UCLA on Dec. 28. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
