Preview: NC State Women Set for ACC Clash at Miami CORAL GABLES, Fla. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to build momentum in nonconference play will meet Sunday when the North Carolina State Wolfpack visits the Miami Hurricanes in a women’s basketball matchup at Watsco Center. The Wolfpack (6-4) and Hurricanes (6-3) enter the contest with identical winning records, though both have faced recent struggles against power-conference opponents. NC State is coming off a 61-53 home win over Seton Hall last Sunday, while Miami dominated Georgia State 99-46 the same day. The game features a compelling backcourt-versus-frontcourt showdown between standout players. NC State is led by dynamic guard Zamareya Jones, who is averaging 17.0 points and 4.6 assists over her last five games. She scored 26 points in a narrow overtime loss at Oklahoma on Dec. 3. Miami will counter with dominant center Ra Shaya Kyle, who has recorded a double-double in five of her last six games. Kyle is coming off a 16-point, 17-rebound performance against Georgia State and averages 16.3 points and 13.5 rebounds over that six-game stretch. Her battle with NC State’s interior defenders will be pivotal. NC State has faced a challenging early schedule, with its four losses coming by an average of just 7.5 points, including the overtime defeat to then-Oklahoma. The Wolfpack’s offense has been inconsistent, however, failing to reach 70 points in four of their last five games. Miami’s results have been more volatile. After a 4-0 start, the Hurricanes have dropped three of their last five, including home losses to Kentucky and Oklahoma State. Their defense will be tested by Jones and an NC State team capable of explosive scoring, as shown in a 110-point outing at Southern Mississippi on Nov. 28. This marks the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both programs. NC State holds a 17-13 advantage in the all-time series, but Miami won the most recent meeting, 73-59, in Raleigh on Jan. 7, 2025. Sunday’s contest is scheduled for a 2 p.m. EST tipoff. The Wolfpack will return home to face Georgia Tech on Thursday, while the Hurricanes hit the road to play Wake Forest the same night.
