(Interstat) — The Notre Dame women’s basketball team concludes its non-conference schedule with a road test against a surging James Madison squad Sunday at the JMU Convocation Center. The Fighting Irish (7-2) enter on a two-game winning streak, including a dominant 97-48 victory over Morehead State on Thursday. Notre Dame’s offense has been potent, averaging 81.2 points per game, but faces a James Madison team known for its defensive intensity. The Dukes (8-3) have won five straight, most recently an 81-63 win over VCU on Dec. 7. Their resurgence follows early-season losses to power-conference foes Texas and Villanova. James Madison allows just 62.5 points per game during its current win streak. Notre Dame is led by dynamic guard Hannah Hidalgo, who is averaging 21.6 points, 4.6 assists and 2.3 steals. She scored 26 points in 30 minutes against Morehead State and nearly posted a triple-double with 17 points, seven rebounds and nine assists in a win at Florida State on Dec. 7. James Madison counters with forward Ashanti Barnes, a consistent force averaging a near double-double during the win streak. She posted 18 points and nine rebounds against VCU and recorded a 14-point, 16-rebound performance in a win over Virginia Tech on Nov. 23. This marks the first meeting between the programs. For Notre Dame, it serves as a final tune-up before Atlantic Coast Conference play begins next week. For James Madison, it represents a prime opportunity to secure a signature victory for its postseason resume before Sun Belt Conference action. The game tips off at 2 p.m. EST Sunday. Notre Dame returns home to face Bellarmine on Dec. 21, while James Madison travels to face Coastal Carolina on Dec. 17.
