ATLANTA (Interstat) — A pair of 4-win teams seeking momentum will meet Sunday when the Kennesaw State Owls visit the Georgia State Panthers in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup at GSU Sports Arena. The Owls (4-3) enter on a high note after an 81-37 rout of Thomas on Dec. 6, their most lopsided victory of the season. Kennesaw State has shown resilience, with its three losses coming by an average of just 8.3 points, including a 79-65 defeat at Alabama on Dec. 1. Kennesaw State is led by guard Keyarah Berry, who is averaging 15 points over her last four games. She scored 19 points in the loss at Alabama and added 12 points and five rebounds in the win over Thomas. She will be a primary focus for the Panthers’ defense. Georgia State (4-6) looks to rebound from a difficult 99-46 road loss at Miami (Fla.) on Dec. 7. Prior to that, the Panthers played in a series of close games, including a 92-103 loss at Florida International and a thrilling 62-61 win over Stony Brook on Nov. 24. The Panthers’ offense runs through guard Crystal Henderson, who has been a consistent scorer and playmaker. She recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists at FIU and is averaging 14.4 points over her last five contests. Containing her will be critical for the Owls. Historically, this intrastate matchup has been tightly contested. Both teams have faced challenging early schedules, with Georgia State’s six losses coming against opponents with a combined record of 45-15, including four Power Five programs. Kennesaw State holds a slight edge in recent performance but has played only one true road game this season, the loss at Alabama. Georgia State will aim to leverage its home court to snap a two-game skid before embarking on a two-game road trip next week. Tipoff is set for Sunday afternoon in Atlanta.
