PHOENIX (Interstat) — A surging Santa Clara women’s basketball team will look to extend its winning streak when it visits struggling Grand Canyon in a nonconference matchup Sunday at GCU Arena. The Broncos (8-3) enter on a three-game win streak, most recently delivering a dominant 125-43 victory over Simpson on Dec. 6. In that game, Maia Jones posted a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds in just 20 minutes, while Delainey Miller added 15 points and 13 rebounds. Santa Clara’s offense has been potent, averaging 80.2 points during its current streak. Jones, a key player for the Broncos, has been consistently productive. She has scored at least 15 points in six of her last seven games, including a 25-point performance in a win at San Diego State on Nov. 19. Grand Canyon (1-8) seeks to halt a five-game skid. The Antelopes’ lone win came against SMU on Nov. 18, and they have suffered several narrow defeats, including a 64-65 loss to Texas-San Antonio and a 58-62 defeat at Gonzaga. Chloe Mann has been a bright spot, averaging 16.0 points over her last three contests. She scored 26 points in the loss to the Bulldogs. The Antelopes’ defense will face a significant test against a high-scoring Santa Clara squad. Grand Canyon has allowed an average of 70.2 points per game this season. This game marks the first meeting between the programs. Following this contest, Santa Clara travels to face North Texas on Dec. 21, while Grand Canyon hosts UNLV on Dec. 17. Tip-off is scheduled for Sunday afternoon in Phoenix.
