GAINESVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — The Florida Gators, riding high at 9-2, return home to host the West Georgia Wolves in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup Sunday at the O’Connell Center. The Gators are coming off a 75-61 victory over South Alabama on Dec. 7, powered by a career-high 32 points from junior guard Liv McGill. McGill has been on a remarkable scoring tear, averaging 28.6 points over her last five games, including 30 in a narrow 68-64 loss at Virginia Tech on Dec. 4. Her backcourt prowess will be the primary focus for a West Georgia defense seeking a signature road win. The Wolves (4-3) aim to bounce back from a 69-62 loss at South Carolina State last Sunday. West Georgia has shown resilience, with forward Destiny Jones recording a 15-rebound, 10-point double-double in that defeat. Jones has been a consistent interior force, averaging 10.0 points and 7.3 rebounds over her last four contests. Florida’s schedule has featured more high-major tests, including wins over Georgia Tech and Florida State, while West Georgia’s victories have come against mid-major and lower-division opponents. The Wolves’ most challenging game resulted in a 100-59 loss at Oregon on Nov. 3. For West Georgia, containing McGill will be paramount, while the Gators must account for Jones and forward Grace O’Gara, who nearly had a double-double with 9 points and 9 rebounds against South Carolina State. This contest serves as a final tune-up before both teams enter extended holiday breaks. Florida will host Florida A&M on Dec. 17, while West Georgia returns home to face Wesleyan on the same date.
