EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Interstat) — The Austin Peay Governors look to rebound from their first loss in nearly a month when they visit the struggling Evansville Purple Aces in a nonconference women’s basketball game Sunday at Ford Center. Austin Peay (4-2) saw a three-game win streak snapped with a 74-56 home loss to Murray State on Dec. 6. The Governors had previously secured double-digit road wins at Missouri-Kansas City and Chattanooga. Their offense will run through guard Veronaye Charlton, who is coming off a 17-point, four-rebound effort against Murray State and recorded a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double in the win at UMKC. Evansville (2-7) seeks to halt a two-game skid after falling 72-55 at Saint Louis on Dec. 7. The Purple Aces’ season has been marked by defensive struggles, including lopsided losses to Power Five opponent Purdue and Iowa. Their bright spot has been guard Camryn Runner, who leads the team in scoring. Runner is averaging 16.4 points over her last five games, including a 25-point, seven-assist performance in a win over IU Indy on Nov. 20. The Governors have shown a balanced attack, with Anovia Sheals adding 14 points and six rebounds in the loss to Murray State. Evansville will need supplementary scoring beyond Runner, as evidenced in the Saint Louis loss where only Logan Luebbers Palmer joined her in double figures with 13 points. This matchup presents a contrast in momentum. Austin Peay aims to regain its winning form before a challenging two-game trip to Chicago next week. Evansville, navigating a difficult early schedule, looks for a signature home win to build confidence before opening Missouri Valley Conference play in January. The game tips off at 2 p.m. EST Sunday. Evansville travels to Belmont on Wednesday, while Austin Peay visits Illinois-Chicago on Dec. 20.
